Do you feel the disruption in the force? (Star Wars jargon) What I am specifically referring to is the meteor shower that is pelting the Information Technology industry. The hits come from all directions without cause or reason that affect the masses. One comes to mind is the swath of layoffs that has significant impact on the people on both sides of the equation…those who are laid off and those who are relegated to stay. Don’t get me wrong that an obvious difficult go is to be laid off and trying to find another gig; however, those that are spared the axe are often called to pick up the slack for the greater good. They are now on the path to the possibility of burnout, which creates a whole set of problems in itself.
As an IT executive, I have a vested interest in protecting and preserving the IT craft in which I have the privilege of being in my entire career. I propose to solicit my fellow IT professionals in a high level problem management social exercise to 1. identify the issues and problems that you are currently dealing with, 2. identify a root cause, and 3. provide a mitigation strategy that we can share with the world. It is a travesty for people to sit idly and do nothing.
I have always been one that will step forward and do something in the most positive way. I believe when you get smart people together to work on a problem, they will always find a solution and or course of action. I know that the IT community within my LinkedIn reach are “cream of the crop” when it comes to smarts.
So, here is where we start:
Phase 1 - Name five things regarding IT that you are having to deal with that is a major issue in regards to people, process, technology and or resource.

I will post the findings a week from today and move to the next phase. Thanks for your time and efforts!!!
